The Digital ArtWalk

Chandler, Ariz.– Explore digital culture at this season’s final downtown Chandler ArtWalk on Friday, May 18 in Dr. A.J. Chandler Park. Step into the transformative power of art as artists use video mapping, interactive sound, and projections to resculpt and reimagine space. Electrify your imagination with our roving theater sculptures with video art, sideshow performance, and pop-up poetry as you stroll the ArtWalk.

Chandler's story is rich in history, its early embrace of technology, the arts and community.  Chandler's foresight to create public space and events that harmonize the past, present and future are intrinsic values the community has embraced for many generations. As a native to Chandler, Arizona it is exciting and heartfelt to be coming "home" and intersecting through arts/technology programming experiences that enrich the community and visitors daily lives.”  Says Lazlos –Ferns.

The Digital Art Movement will include performances by Dak, a graduate  of  the ASU Herberger Institute of  Design, Crystal Cruz, founder of House of Cirque, a performance and circus side show troupe, Fiasco, a nationally touring company that specializes in interactive audience engagement, Ana Flores, cast member at Childsplay and published poet, and Roman Reyes, Phoenix area artist  as well as Professor Emeritus at Phoenix College.

Clean Team to bring sparkle to Downtown Chandler

Clean Team Debuts in Downtown Chandler

Chandler, Ariz. – A beautiful and clean Downtown Chandler is our top priority. In our ongoing effort to make Chandler a choice destination for meeting friends for lunch or a date night out we want our visitors to always feel like they are welcome and at home.

In order to accomplish that feeling, we are proud to introduce our new Downtown Chandler’s Clean Team.  The Team is responsible for keeping the public areas sparkling clean. Day and night, the crew works diligently to keep the walkways, parking lots and public areas in pristine condition. In addition to keeping Downtown looking beautiful, the Clean Team is a great resource for information. They can help guide our guests to a particular restaurant or provide maps with upcoming event information. They are always eager to help out the guests who are attending the weekly farmers market or the residents that call downtown home.

Thanks to a partnership arrangement with The Downtown Tempe Authority, we are able to create a consistent program and gain the maximum amount of service hours to accomplish our goal of a Clean and Friendly Downtown.

The team is on the streets Wednesday through Sunday. The Clean Team can be found in their bright green hats and shirts.  Starting the program  we have two team members, Deborah Mudge and Jim Bush. You can spot Deborah hard at work in the mornings and Jim is assigned the evening shifts.

Next time you are in Downtown Chandler, look out for our Clean Team members and don’t forget to find a member and say hello, if you get a chance capture your meeting with a selfie using and post it using the hashtag DowntownChandler.

A New Menu hits The Brickyard Downtown - Citrus is the New Salt.

If you’ve been around Chandler for for a few years, you’ve noticed that quite a few things have changed.  The Brickyard Downtown, a bar and restaurant in Downtown Chandler that features global flavors, small plates and extremely unique, creative cocktails, has been consistently evolving too.  After only a year a half, they are releasing their fourth food menu.  This menu, under Executive Chef Aaron Rickel, features 19 sharing plates, which includes 3 salads and a meat and cheese board.  There are 4 larger sharing plates for those who prefer heavier portions, and 3 desserts - 2 that are returning favorites and a brand new bread pudding.

Citrus is the rockstar of this menu, and according to Chef Rickel, there are certainly plenty of reasons why.  “Citrus, especially lemon, is a brightener, like salt.  It enhances the natural flavors, and often can be used instead of salt or alongside salt to intensify a dish.”

Chef goes on to say that “every dish needs to be balanced: it needs acidity, sweetness, salt, fat.  Citrus acts the balancing agent to the plate.  Grapefruit is tart, lime can be overbearing, lemon is right in the middle - you have to figure out what the other flavors bring, and complement them using the ideal citrus.”

This new menu includes citrus in quite a few dishes, but don’t underestimate the ingredient:  Chef Rickel utilizes this flavor as a compliment rather than as a foundation.

“For example, in the Wakame Salad, we use lime segments to replace sauces and dressings.  You won't get citrus in every bite, but when you do, that flavor will linger in your mouth and create a unique flavor for each bite that comes thereafter.

Citrus helps with spicy food - it balances the intensity of the spice so that each unique bite has the appropriate level of heat.  Citrus can cut through fat and it works well with sugar, too.  I mean, come on, sugar and citrus are made for each other.  In desserts, the sugar will take out the bite of the acid and the citrus will enhance the flavor.  It’s perfect.”

Fall is always a unique time in Arizona.  It still has plenty of warmth, but the later part of the season brings cool enough weather that people want to enjoy heavier food.  This menu contains items that will be sure to satisfy the cravings of both palates.
